Welcome to Bio 107 Ecology- This course includes concepts based on trophic systems, where there is much concentration on inter/intra- relationship between organisms and the environment. Understanding the key components of the abiotic and biotic component is imperative in understanding the dynamics of the ecosystem. Therefore the following main areas will be covered: use of key terminology in ecology, food chains, food webs, role of energy and nutrients (biogeochemical cycles), Community Ecology, Population Ecology environmental degradation such as deforestation, eutrophication, cascading effects, and an introduction to sustainable development.
