COURSE DESCRIPTION:The course encompasses Unit 2 of the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE), designed as an introduction to human anatomy and physiology. It includes concepts based on homeostasis and concentrates on ‘Structure and Function’ as the main unifying themes. The following main areas of human biology are studied: regulation and control (homeostasis, nervous and hormonal control-nervous system and endocrine system), maintenance (cardiovascular system, respiratory system, kidney as an excretory organ, liver structure and function, immunity and preventative medicine). Included are laboratory sessions which serve as an integral content area that complements the course.
