Yucatec or Yucatan Maya (known to its own speaker’s simple as Maya) is a Mayan language of the Yucatan Peninsula and Northern Belize. 800,000 Mayan people speak dialects of this language fluently today. There are approximately 6,000 speakers in Belize. The course covers preparation to maintain a cultural language and be able to conduct a brief conversation by using basic Yucatec Maya sentences, expressions and vocabulary. It provides students the capacity to read, understand, translate and write common Yucatec Maya expressions used in daily dialogues. Thus, individual attention is rendered to students as they cover five units for one semester.
