EN 108 is a College English course which is mandatory for all students registered in the Associate of Arts in Primary Teacher Education. It is a pre-requisite course for EN209. This course aims at strengthening students’ writing, analytical and instructional skills in the formal, technical and scientific discourses of exposition and argumentation, thus, sharpening students’ skills in APA documentation and abilities to prepare a debate. It allows the student-teacher to plan and execute presentations and mini-lessons, in these formal types of discourses, for an elementary school context. The focus is on developing the skills to effectively use the process of writing to prepare and analyze formal discourses. It teaches student-teachers to practice the process of writing and analysis of topic, thesis statements, style, audience, patterns of organization, and strategies/techniques of formal prose. In addition, it teaches the student-teacher the importance and practice of writing first drafts to improve writing skills.
