This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the major themes, events, and developments that have shaped the history of Belize from pre-Columbian times to the present day. Students will explore the cultural, political, economic, and social forces that have influenced the formation and transformation of Belizean society. Topics include ancient Maya civilization, European colonization and resistance, slavery and emancipation, the colonial experience, the nationalist movement, independence, and contemporary issues in postcolonial Belize.
